According to old faith, Goddess Parvati performed severe penance near the Ganga River to gain Lord Shiva's affection. But being oblivious to worldly issues, Lord Shiva did not know anything about her devotion.

Her father, Himalaya, was concerned, looking at her in such misery. Upon the suggestion of Maharishi Narad, he got her married to Lord Vishnu. Goddess Parvati came to know about this and approached her friend, who removed her from there to conceal her desire. She came out in the woods quite deep, where she went on praying with complete focus and devotion.

Pleased with her strong will and affection, Lord Shiva eventually appeared before her and accepted her as his bride. Women take a holy vow on the night prior to Hariyali Teej to keep a Nirjala Vrat, i.e., fasting without water and food. Morning Rituals and Preparations (27th July)

They rise early in the morning, bathe spiritually, and wear green sarees or conventional attire. Green bangles and intricate Hariyali Teej mehndi designs are essential components of their appearance. Solah shringar, which contains sixteen things applied to beautify and add grace, is used by women to complete their appearance.

Teej Mata Puja and Devotion
